“A FRIEND in need,” –my neighbor said to me,-
“A friend indeed, is what I fain would be:
In time of trouble when the world looks blue,
You’ll need my friendship then-and find it true!”
I thought a bit, and took him by the hand:
“Ah, no” Said I “you do not understand
The inner meaning of that simple rhyme,-
The heart has need of friendship all the time.”
Henry van Dyke
